Mini Masterpieces 

Saturdays: January 17, 24, 31, February 7; 1–3 pm

Teaching Artist: Cassidy Coalson

In this multi-media class, we will create miniature artworks inspired by artists in the collection. Students will practice mindful viewing as we explore both historical and contemporary paintings and sculptures, learning to read an artwork by making connections to the symbols, titles, and mediums used by artists. In the studio, we’ll learn techniques to paint, sculpt, and construct our own mini masterpieces, focusing on art elements like composition, balance, and texture.

Printed Books 

Saturdays: February 21, 28, March 7, 14; 1–3 pm

Teaching Artist: Therese Straseski

Learn the ancient techniques of printmaking and bookbinding and explore ways artists today use both art forms. We’ll try techniques, such as collagraph and relief printing, to create personal symbols that tell stories from our lives. We’ll finish our books with a variety of decorative paper and materials, with inspiration from artists in the collection, such as Ed Ruscha and Andy Warhol.

Clay Sculpture: Blobs, Globs, & Slime 

Saturdays: March 28, April 4, 11, 18; 1–3 pm

Teaching Artist: Harrison Cook

Artist Ken Price is known for his biomorphic sculptures that appear to ooze and melt off the pedestal. Students will begin by making slime to inspire their sculptures and learn to represent fluid-like movements with clay. We'll finish our clay sculptures by burnishing and applying iridescent glazes to create reflective surfaces. This class will explore color, movement, and sculpting in-the-round as we make abstract sculptures inspired by slime!
