Collaborative Mural 

Mon–Fri: Jun 15–19; 1–4 pm 

Teaching Artist: Cassidy Coalson 

This camp will focus on how artists grow within a creative network through communication and experimentation with fellow artists. After visiting City in Print for inspiration, the group will work through the creative process to envision, plan, and construct a sculptural mural. Using acrylic paint, sculptural materials, and artistic contributions from younger campers, we will create a 3D community mural for The Joslyn’s Discovery Garden, transforming our collective vision into a public work of art! 

Needlework 

Mon–Fri: Jun 22–26; 1–4 pm 

Teaching Artist: Megan McCoy 

Explore embroidery and crochet as creative ways to personalize everyday clothes and objects. We’ll look to decorated objects in the American collection and contemporary fiber artists for inspiration, then learn essential embroidery skills and crochet basics to make simple accessories, patches, and small pieces we can wear. 

Wearable Art: Shibori & Shashiko 

Mon–Fri: Jul 6–10; 1–4 pm 

Teaching Artist: Megan McCoy 

Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist‑dyeing technique that inspired modern tie‑dye, known for its structured methods and intricate patterns. In this class, you’ll fold, twist, stitch, and clamp fabric before dipping it in indigo to reveal beautiful designs. We’ll finish by adding bold, geometric details using Shashiko embroidery, turning your work into wearable art. 

Alternative Photography 

Mon–Fri: Jul 13–17; 1–4 pm 

Teaching Artist: Harrison Cook 

Learn analog photography techniques, then display the photos they produce in a variety of cool ways! We’ll visit photographs in the galleries to gain inspiration, then back in the studio we’ll build our own pin-hole cameras and experiment with photo scanner photography and cyanotypes to create collages, dioramas, and zines that really show off our shots.
